Well, dirt is flying these days as dry time has come and road building on the farm begins anew. We have staked out another half kilometre length of cart path and construction has begun in earnest. This portion will link the main Retreat area with the completed cart path through the jungle that takes you to The South Shore Common Area. Two weeks or so will get us a very useable roadbed in that section and then we move on to the other road through the meadow toward Phase Three. First thing is running new fencing so the horses are kept from mashing up all the work we will be doing there.
If all goes according to plan we should also have a good roadbed laid through the meadow that takes you all the way to the foot of the hill in Phase Three and at that point, temporarily, there will begin a very walkable path all the way to the top of the farm at over 200′above sea level!!
I will keep posting photos of the road building as it progresses. I never imagined I would get so into engineering and building these roads around the farm, but it’s quite a blast to see them coming together.
Roads do weird things to places. The feeling of comfortable, easy access changes how you see and interact with a place. But, I will save the philosophical meander for another blog when we are more knee deep in roadifying the place.
ciao
