dolphins, health, wellness, leisurology

I was sitting at my computer one sunny day two years ago in the village of Ajijic Mexico, the sound of children playing outside drifting sporadically through the open window. Three months earlier I’d fled the frenetic pace of Tokyo Japan, where I’d spent the last two decades, and now found myself in this enclave of expats residing near the shores of Lake Chapala. I’d come to Mexico to recuperate from the pressure cooker existence of Tokyo, and to hopefully gain insight to a saner, more natural way to live. Although a pleasant enough place, Ajijic didn’t feel quite right, and the realization had been growing daily that I’d soon be moving on.

Our lives seem to be directed by unseen forces at times, and for some inexplicable reason the thought of dolphins entered my mind that afternoon. I impulsively Googled the term, and after skimming a few articles on the incredible beings, I chanced upon the leisurevolution site.

That evening I sent Swanny a brief email telling him of my interest in his project, asking if it would be possible to visit the farm in the ensuing weeks. His response was immediate, warm and welcoming.

Meeting Swanny and Luna for the first time a few weeks later was like greeting old friends, and as we sat and chatted about the project, their enthusiasm for what they envisioned for the farm was contagious.

Later that afternoon as Swanny and I drove the winding road that lead to the beach, I asked him what had brought him to Bocas. He replied that the area “spoke to him”. Even though I’d been there only a few days, I thought I understood what he meant. Though hard pressed to find a logical explanation for the connection I felt to this funky little town by the sea, I sensed it was somehow going to be part of my future.

Setting foot on Cristobal the next day and walking to what would eventually become my little spot of paradise, I intuitively knew that I’d found what I’d been searching for.

And so now, after many months of dreaming of returning, I’m about to make my way back “home” in February, to the beauty and magic that is Dolphin Bay…
